Kilbride
GFC
Kilbride
GFC was founded in 1927 by a group of men after an evenings
kick about in Malone's field in Knockdoorish in Kilbride. Tom
Malone was the clubs first chairman and Bob Curry acted as
Secretary/Treasurer. The first game played was against Coolnashnachta
in Myshall and the team wore their shirts as jerseys. The following
season saw the club affiliate in their new colours, yellow
and green and defeated the Blues at Killerig Cross by 1 point.
In 1930 the club changed colours to what they still are today,
red and green and won the Carlow championship, defeating Kildavin
in the final in Borris by 4-2 to 1-1. The club has gone from
strength to strength throughout the years winning many league
and championship titles along the way. Today it is one of the
smallest club's in the county but it's first team is still
going strong in the Senior championship.
